Adorable campground. Right in the middle of the Talimena Scenic Drive. All of the sites are well equipped with a level pad for your tent, a picnic table, firepit, raised grill and little preparation table next to the grill.
An awesome place to camp and explore. Nice sites that have their own bbq grills, fire pits, picnic tables and a tent pad. It is primitive camping so you have to bring your own water.
The scenery is nothing short of breathtaking - especially during the fall.
The were yard faucets throughout, but the one we tried had no water to it. Wasn't an issue for us, but might be for some.
Also, the vault toilets were NASTY - one was completely unusable due to some jerk explosively pooing all over the toilet seat and back (why not just sit down to do your business????!!) and the other had a sign on the door warning you not to close the door completely or you'd be locked in. This door had clearly been pried open with a crowbar...I know our parks are generally under funded but yikes!!!
Seriously...these guys were EVERYWHERE! In our campsite they were dropping on our heads from the trees above, crawling up our legs and body and covering our gear. I went to bed just after sunset because I couldn't handle them any more and just wanted the safety of my tent. In the morning there were over 300 of them on the outside of my tent, in between the rain fly and the mesh of the tent. I heard them crawling on the material all night. It was like a horror movie! My photos just don't fully capture the experience.
Its a nice place for hikers to rest and camp but there is a small fee for camping beautiful view horse trails near the camp restrooms
Highly Recommended!
Visited on a weekend in early October. Beautiful as other reviewers have said however I just don't understand how no one else has reported the infestation of walking stick bugs!!!
Absolutely loved this spot. There were bathroom facilities, a decent amount of space between campsites, and a clean, flat spot for your tent. It's nestled into the trees and includes a lookout next to the campground where you can see into the valley down below and get a clear view of the millions of stars above.
Be sure to check campsites carefully before you commit - I have no idea if this is a seasonal thing or a random surge of numbers but wow!! Never seen anything like this before + will never be able to even think about camping here again.
